Planning & Zoning Division
To speak with a Planning & Zoning Division staff member please call 954-630-4425. The Planning and Zoning Division provides the following functions:
- Manages and updates the City’s Comprehensive Plan and Land Development Code.
- The division provides information and assistance to the public and property owners. The division emphasizes public participation by employing various techniques including neighborhood participation meetings with potential applicants, facilitating workshops, and conducting formal public hearings. Outreach to the public is accomplished through mailings, press releases, and advertising.
- Provides technical reviews for, and administers the Development Review Committee (DRC )
- Provides technical assistance to the City Commission and acts as a liaison to numerous City committees and intergovernmental working groups including the Planning and Zoning Advisory Board, Historic Preservation Board, and Board of Adjustment.
- Reviews both commercial and residential development projects, guides citizens, developers, and business owners as it conducts reviews for site development plans, plats, land use plan amendments, re-zonings, conditional uses, variances, flood determinations and business licenses.
- Prepares data and analysis pertaining to land use for use by the public and other agencies. The division’s GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and graphics capabilities support the division's decision-making, enhance the community's public participation process, and provide services to the residents of Oakland Park through strategic planning, data analysis, map preparation, and the pursuit of grants.
